Essay Writing

Essay and feature writing has always been my favorite. I find it easier than literary and creative writing. An essay is a typically short piece of writing, from an author's personal point of view.

Here is one of my sample essays. I wrote this last February as part of my application for graduate school.

Statement of Purpose

Every person has his own reason for pursuing graduate study. The most common reason is professional development or advancement. Some people want to enter graduate school when they find a field of study that interests them greatly. It also increases confidence in one’s chosen field or profession and broadens career opportunities.

I decided to apply to the Master of Technology Management Program being offered at the University of the Philippines-Diliman to acquire further understanding on key management approaches and various aspects of technological innovations. Being involved in development planning for the past seven (7) years, I would like to keep abreast with the latest technological innovations and apply them in the formulation and implementation of various programs and projects for the city government.

I think my academic background in Information Technology and work experience in the field of development planning would qualify to pursue the Program. If I would be admitted to the Program, my specific areas of interest will be – Project Management, Information Technology Management, and Strategic Technology Planning. Once finished, I intend to continue to work at the City Government of Makati or if given the opportunity, in a national government agency.

Graduate studies require a lot of self-discipline, thus, going through this next stage in my continuous quest for knowledge poses a great challenge to me. I will try my very best to balance my job, studies, and my duties as a wife and mother.

My Entrecard

I've been meaning to edit/customize my Entrecard but I don't have the guts to do so because I'm not creative. Aside from that, Entrecard says that "Image MUST be a 125x125 JPEG/JPG or PNG file". During my previous attempts, resizing the images seems to be quite difficult for me.

Its symmetric cone was formed through alternate pyroclastic and lava flows. Mayon is the most active volcano in the country, having erupted over 47 times in the past 400 years, and is apart of what is called the Pacific Ring of Fire.

It features a limestone karst mountain landscape with an 8.2 km. navigable underground river. A distinguishing feature of the river is that it winds through a cave before flowing directly into the South China Sea. It includes major formations of stalactites and stalagmites, and several large chambers. The lower portion of the river is subject to tidal influences. The underground river is reputed to be the world’s longest. At the mouth of the cave, a clear lagoon is framed by ancient trees growing right to the water’s edge. Monkeys, large monitor lizards, and squirrels find their niche on the beach near the cave.

Daddy's Girl

I have been tagged by Juliana (Pinay WAHM).

As the title implies, this tag is all about Daddy! Just in time with the Father's Day which will be on June 8!

Thea loves playing with her Papa when he's home. When the little girl requests for an occasional Jollibee treat, Papa will tag her along to the nearest mall. When Mama is busy doing the household chores, Papa is always there to put her to sleep. Sometimes Thea refuse to sleep but insist to watch TV or just make "kulit" with Papa. When she got sick, Papa will be the first one to call or set appointment with her pedia. Thea is indeed a Daddy's Girl.

Happy Birthday to ME!

“Happy Birthday!” My husband greeted me with a morning kiss. I thanked him and said come on, let us prepare breakfast, Ate Leny, BA and Thea will be here at around 7am. Unluckily, we have waited for more an hour after the breakfast has been prepared but they did not arrive yet. My worried husband made a phone call to Gold Line Bus Terminal in Pasay City and they claimed that all buses coming from Bulan, Sorsogon has already arrived. Dun na kami nag-alala lalo na ang asawa ko. He is the kind of person who tends to overreact especially during incidents like this. So I ran to the nearest electronic loading station to buy load credits for my cellphone. I called my sister and she said that they were stranded in a mountainous area somewhere in Quezon Province. They transferred to another bus and finally arrived past one o’clock in the afternoon.

It seems that the little girl missed her Papa and Mama very much. During the first few hours, she did not let anyone carry her except her Papa and me.

I cooked spaghetti with the help of my husband. He always wants sweet-style spaghetti that is why we added sweet-blend catsup and 2 tablespoons of sugar to the sauce. Not bad, it tasted so good (wink). Come 4:00 in the afternoon and the Zaballa family had spaghetti, chocolate cake, and suman (a Filipino native delicacy) on my simple birthday get-together.

Papa and Thea, Thank you so much for making my day a very special one. Likewise, lots of thanks to all who greeted me...I love you all, mwuah!

Even before Thea turns 2, whe is fond of playing with pens. She writes almost everywhere whenever she has the opporunity to grab a pen. Be it in the sofa, in her rubber mat, on the wall and even in her own legs hahaha.

She really loves doodling with this pink Bratz pen. The photo on the left shows how she scribbles in an old table calendar as if she's blocking an important date on her schedule hehehe.

By the way, as what we've observed she is not fond of playing with dolls unlike other little girls in her age. Her other favorite toys include stuffed toys like Po of Teletubies, Care Bear, and Barney and everything Dora :D.

Missing You!

I miss my baby! My little darling Althea is still on vacation. My sister told me this morning that she wasn't able to book for tomorrow's bus departure from Irosin (my hometown). So instead of arriving on Thursday morning, the little girl together with her Tita and cousin will arrive on Saturday. My husband said it's okay to extend their stay there as long as they will surely arrive on Saturday. Yeah right, they should be here, because it’s my BIRTHDAY, J

I'll be turning 31on May 24...It'll be a family affair, just a simple celebration to remember how grateful I am for the wonderful blessings that God has given me for the past 12 months…

Btw, I want to share some of Thea’s latest photos taken last week Tuesday at my office. One of my officemates enjoyed taking pictures while I was away to keep the little girl busy. J I left Thea for about an hour with her ‘coz I attended a meeting at the other building.

******* 8 Random Facts/Habits***********

1. I came for a big family, being the youngest in the brood of nine (9). All of us are already married. My daughter is the 30th grandchild of my parents.

2. I am a silent-type and moody person. (I thinks there's no need to elaborate, hehehe)

3. My family is my top priority. They are the reason why I work, they are my inspiration. No matter how busy I am, I'll always find time to do all the household chores and fulfill my duties as a hands-on mom to my daughter.

4. I really value the importance of education because it is one of the best catalysts in attaining a bright future.

5. I am a morning person. I love waking up at dawn. I think I got this habit from my mom. :)

6. I am suffering from GERD or gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is defined as chronic symptoms or mucosal damage produced by the abnormal reflux in the esophagus. How I wish, I am a scientist for me to discover the best medicine for this. To prevent recurrence of acid reflux, I am not allowed to drink coffee, milk, citrus juices, and not allowed to eat large meals, too much chocolate, cabbage, and other acidic foods... (Haay, ang daming bawal!)

7. I love music. I am a choir member in our Church. But, I am not good in solo singing that's why I hate videoke :). hehehe

8. I have more than a dozen of online pals turned real-life friends...I am really grateful meeting these wonderful persons...

A baby born with tooth is uncommon. Since it is so rare parents often worry a great deal about the tooth. A tooth that exists when a baby is born is called a neonatal tooth. Baby teeth begin forming when the baby is still in the womb. Sometimes the teeth just develop faster. Unless the tooth is loose it is not something you should really worry about too much although it is still a good idea to see a dentist to help determine what course of action should be taken.

In rare instances a baby born with tooth can actually have a spare tooth. That tooth that has already erupted, that the baby is born with, actually formed over the baby teeth that have yet to come in. The tooth is most often a bottom front tooth. If the tooth is an extra tooth it will fall out eventually when the real baby tooth is coming in but in some cases it may need to be removed. This will especially help with breast feeding the child.

Just as a baby born with tooth is rare, a baby without teeth by the age of 1 is rare. This could be the symptom of a metabolic disorder or the teeth could just be particularly stubborn. Tooth eruption of the baby first tooth normally occurs around 6-7 months of age. The first baby tooth is normally at the front of the mouth, with later teeth coming in and working their way towards the back of the mouth.

So Busy!

I am so busy and it shows...I haven't updated my blogs for a week.

At work - we are on the second phase for the Annual Program Review and Planning Workshop. In fact, the first part of the 2-day workshop on the draft integrated report has just finished at 4:20pm today. We've been busy since last week in preparation for this activity.

At home - the working mom was really busy preparing Thea's visit to her Lola in Bicol. I was on leave yesterday. Went on grocery for a last minute shopping, cooked their "baon" and then sent them off at the bus terminal. My husband felt sad coz this is the first she'll be away from us. They will stay there for just one week.

At the school - As an incoming freshmen, I'm currently attending the TMC Summer 2008 Workshop. Still have to undergo medical examination, need to fix my transcript of records...

Just an update....

Last Minute Post

It's almost 8pm now but I'm still here at the office. The supervisor called an emergency meeting this afternoon. It is still part of the city's annual program review/evaluation. You might be wondering why I'm here at my desk & blogging while the meeting is on-going, haha. The fact is, we already finished viewing/editing the PowerPoint presentation for my sector. So it's okey if I leave the conference room already. :D I'll work on the revisions tomorrow.

I decided to check my blog after eating Chao Fan with Siomai. :) It is still raining and I can't go home yet 'coz I don't have an umbrella. I'll check if somebody here has an extra one...

I'm hoping for a fine weather tomorrow.

The City will be commemorating its 338th Foundation Anniversary on June 1. At part of the celebration, there will be a Grand Parade at the Ayala CBD tomorrow.

Tuesday Toot # 2

It has been a while since my first "Tuesday Toot" post. I have been very busy during the past couple of weeks. As of my accomplishments today, I have completed one of my pending tasks at work, had it printed and submitted it to my supervisor. I hope I can finish the last part of the report tomorrow. (sigh)

Even if I woke up 30 minutes late this morning, I still managed to cook something for my family's breakfast and lunch. It is quite difficult to get up early especially when you're tired after a day of working, right?... But, as a working mom, I really have to...
